It was in 1978 that Tuvalu’s flag was initially adopted. The flag consists of a light blue background, with a British Union Jack occupying the upper left quarter. Nine yellow five pointed stars – representing the nine islands of Tuvalu and reproducing their geographical appearance on a map – are clustered on the right.
